An LDC module establishes a teaching task, the skills and instruction students will need complete the task, and results in the form of student work. There are multiple templates available for each kind of writing, using varied layouts but all offering the key elements required for LDC Design. We recommend reading the 1.0 Guidebook first as a way to understand the tool designs.
New! Module Templates for Elementary Grades 4-5!LDC is expanding from middle and high school to include tools for work in science, social studies, and English language arts at the upper elementary level! (These module templates are designed for use with the new Elementary Template Tasks.) |
Argumentation TemplatesHere are two choices for argumentation, and you can read about other options below. Download horizontal, chart-based template |
Informational-Explanatory TemplatesOnce again, there are multiple options that meet the LDC framework requirements. Download horizontal, chart-based template |
Narrative Templates |
Paideia TemplatesThese templates are designed to teach and assess the Common Core College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards identified in the LDC standards as well as those for “Speaking and Listening” including a formal and rigorous dialogue about concepts and ideas. Common Core “Reading” and “Writing” standards are practiced and assessed around the Paideia Seminar discussion. If you are not trained in leading Paideia (Socratic) Seminars, you can still teach this module by replacing the Seminar in Cluster 3 with another discussion-based strategy. Task-Only TemplatesSome participants choose to create and share teaching tasks without including plans for skills and instruction. For that shortened approach, these templates can be helpful. Download Argumentation Task-Only Template |
Under Development: Module Creator on-line approachMetaMetrics, another LDC partner, is currently developing a web-based approach to creating modules. In effect, that Module Creator will provide yet another version of module templates, still following the same requirements but providing another way to use LDC’s many flexible features. |
Module ChecklistThis tool sets out the LDC requirements with space for notes on how well a module fits the rules. It’s a useful resource for people part way through module development to check that their own work is on track, and helpful for peer-to-peer feedback as well. |
